FC United is a 'rebel' 3rd sector football club, born out of the anti-Glazer movement at United five years ago. A group of fans, fed up with Man United extortionate ticket prices, set up the club as a not for profit co-operative, and are as interested in community develiopment as they are in football. In addition to running a highly successful football club, they run all kinds of activities within the community, including physical activity sessions for young people, and healthy eating workshops in schools.
Manchester Evening News, recently published a back page article on United, about their plans for a new £3.5M stadium and community facilities in East Manchester.
