38 weeks 3 days ago
Description

Can Cook have been working with Secondary Schools across the North West since 2007 – teaching them cookery skills and giving them the confidence to use these skills at home and as they grow up; giving them knowledge of where their food comes and how to make healthier eating choices.

Can Cook want to ‘teach everyone to cook’ and to inspire and enthuse pupils to enjoy cookery and food. The Can Cook Studio Interactive Learning Resource for Schools is the next step towards this goal, introducing students to different areas of the whole food and cooking experience, which are key parts of their school curriculum.

The ‘Teaching Everyone to Cook’ resource supports the delivery of practical cookery skills for pupils across the curriculum – using real life experiences and events to engage students, including interviews with those in food related careers, practical tool kits to manage and market events, and chef cooking demonstrations; aiming to provide impact in school, into the home and preparing students for potential food related careers.

The Teachers Notes/ Lesson Plans and worksheets provided with the resource are designed to be used in conjunction with the DVD, guiding teachers and offering relevant exercises, tasks and practical cookery lessons, including practical demonstrations of keys skills, dishes and recipes from the Can Cook Chefs to use with students during their lessons. A full recipe pack is included with the resource.

Sections of the resource include:

- Planning an Event,
- Health Safety and Hygiene,
- Basic Food Preparation Skills, and
- Contemporary World Foods.

The video clip to the left is an excerpt from the Chinese section of Contemporary World Foods on the interactive DVD.
