Get Up And Go - Chair Based Exercise Guide book and DVD
The Chair Based Exercise Guide has been produced by Oldham Community Leisure, in Partnership with Age Concern, through the Target: Wellbeing funded get up and Go Project.
These resources are designed for older people, as a guide to exercise classes, and to enable them to continue exercising at home, after classes have finished.
The exercises in this book will benefit people with:-
• Poor balance
• Fear of falling
• Poor gait
• Poor functional ability
• Low bone density and/or family history of fracture
• Loss of confidence due to health and mobility problems
• Osteoarthritis
Falling is a serious issue for older people, resulting in frequent injury, and psycological impacts. Falls are the leading cause of mortality due to injury in people over 75 in the UK. 20% of hip fracture patients die within a year of their fracture, and up to 14,000 people die each year as a result of a hip fracture. The cost to the the NHS resulting from falls is £1.7 billion, and rising 2% each year.
