About

This project aims to help managers and staff delivering social care in Cumbria to increase their knowledge, skills and confidence so that they are able to deliver high quality personal care/support which enhances individuals’ wellbeing.

It will include work on:
• the importance of ensuring every service user’s dignity is maintained
• understanding nutrition and the impact good/bad nutrition can have on other aspects of life e.g. energy, self esteem, medication, falls, continence, dignity
• practical ways to enhance good nutrition in a range of settings
• encouraging activities amongst older people
• promoting the independence of individuals whenever possible

This work will take place in a variety of ways including the production of training packs, train the trainer workshops/courses and updating the CSAC induction pack.

The project aims to work with all CSAC members delivering services to adults ( private and third sector organisations and Cumbria Care, the County Council’s in-house care provider).

Several pilots were undertaken which highlighted the need for the management of change towards making person-centred planning and thereby real choice and participation for older people, a reality. This project aims to develop the workforce and support management to address the identified health inequalities.
