PROJECT UPDATE JANUARY 2012:
A Final Celebration was recently held for the project. They attended a “Young at Heart” Event at the Bourne Poacher. A good time was had by all, with everyone vowing to return again in the future. Some who were unable to attend had funds contributed towards their Christmas Party in their Sheltered Accommodation. This enabled them to share their celebration with their friends and resident neighbours.
- The project continues to work with a range of local partners and agencies, including: Rebound Dance, IKAN,Local Luncheon Clubs, Sports Development, LINK, Knowsley Carers Centre and local Well-being services.
- In September a Pension/Benefit Advice Surgery was held for one of the Ageing Well Groups at their Sheltered Accommodation. This was also extended to their fellow residents to maximise on the number of Benefit Checks undertaken. This was done in oollaboration with the Information & Advise Officer for Age UK Knowsley.
- The Whiston Group’s exercise programme is gaining pace with their increased confidence and better flexibility. They are also interacting more on a social level with their Healthy Lunch and afternoon of fun activities and several members have now also signed up for future Computer Classes with Age UK.
- Knowsley Older Peoples Olympics 2011 took place in October. Ageing Well had various members competing in a variety of events, after training at weekly practice sessions. A very successful event leading up to the Olympics demonstrating older people can get involved!

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This initiative trains and coordinates Volunteer Senior Health Mentors (VSHMs) who support other older people and carers within the community to make healthier lifestyle choices and have better access to community activities.
