PROJECT UPDATE JANUARY 2012:
Reduced capacity within Refugee Action has forced the project to focus on 1-1 support rather than group work. 50 asylum seekers have received this support this quarter.
- The project has submitted a Sustaining Change, and an Impact bid to the BIG Lottery.
- Cycling activities have resumed this quarter in Platt Fields park.
- Developed their links with local universities for whom we provide social work and occupation therapy placements.
- Also, two Global Exchange volunteers utilised on a ten week placements.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Promoting the positive wellbeing of isolated refugees through increasing physical activity and developing healthy eating knowledge.

The project will develop opportunities through:
- Regular programmed activities such as swimming, cookery, dance groups, etc.
- Supporting people to use mainstream activities, for example football clubs, cycling, allotments
- Supporting groups to develop their own activities including refugee community organisations

We set up the project because: 
Many refugees are isolated with little social contact. They live with extreme levels of stress from the experiences that caused them to flee their country, then uncertainty and often desperation from the many obstacles they face in the UK.
